Good to see this back up again - do you have services at your Church? Was christened as a baby but not catholic, so not sure if I can come?

Hey David, I'm a student at the University and a member of the parish.

There are several services, weekdays at 1:10am and 5:15pm, (the 5:15 is followed by Vespers- prayer through singing- which is beautiful). On Saturday there is a service at 12:00pm and on Sundays there are services at 9am, 10am, 11am, 12noon and 7.15 pm.

You should certainly pop along. After the Sunday masses the community meets in the next door building where you can meet some people and speak to the priests etc.

Hope to see you around!

Oh and David you should check out the website:

The address is 24 George Square, you can find it on google maps if you need help finding it and the chapel is upstairs!

Hello there.

I have a question. Why did Jesus come?

Some Christians say 'To die on the cross for our sins', but that seems inadequate and raises more questions than answers for me.

Surely love has got something to do with it and not just punishment?

Any help, greatly received!

Thank you.

Yes you're right. God creates the world out of love. Our love is a response to what's there - his love causes things to be.

It's the same with our second creation in the death and Resurrection in Christ. "God sent his Son into the world not to condemn the world" "God so loved the world that he gave us his only Son"...

So the whole story of the cross is about the loving offer of forgiveness and a new creation in Christ, bringing us healing from our sins and a new life as children of God.

I'll post something on punishment and what it means in a day or two, but it's important to remember that really punishment is a consequence on turning from God and his plan for us - it is something we essentially do to ourselves. More on that tomorrow...

Hi, I was wondering this earlier and thought I would ask. Is it morally wrong to 'like' and sing/dance to chart music that has immoral lyrics and videos? The thing is so many songs I hear I love then listen to the lyrics more carefully and see the video and feel uncomfortable that I like it! Sorry if this question sounds really trivial!

It's certainly not a trivial question. Christians are in the world, but not of it, so Christians always have to balance our being part of the world around us with our living out the life of the kingdom as the children of God.

There are some forms of popular culture which are clearly harmful to us and to others, and so we should have nothing to do with pornography or media which belittles human dignity through a distorted focus on sex, or which communicates hatred and prejudice.

When the song, film, book website etc is not clearly harmful, the best question to ask is whether it makes us think and feel more deeply. A sign that culture is helpful is whether it can elevate our human experience.

So I think the measure of all culture, the question to ask whatever causes you concern is "can this enlarge my life or the lives of others." Then we have our answer....
